talks

Summary

I give the opening keynote of the RACOON Research Days 2026 on Thursday, 1 October 2026 at Schloss Hohentübingen in Tübingen, Germany — “Weltraumblick: KI zwischen Gegenwart und Zukunft” (“View from space: AI between present and future”), 45 minutes, in German, at the invitation of the RACOON coordination at Universitätsklinikum Tübingen.

The audience is the RACOON network itself — radiology and medical-informatics representation from Germany’s university hospitals. So the keynote is deliberately not a radiology talk. It takes the outside-in view: where AI actually stands today, where the trajectory points, and what follows from that for the people who build and run a national research infrastructure. Two threads run through it — artificial intelligence beyond radiology, and the infrastructure question, because RACOON is first and foremost a research infrastructure.

About RACOON

RACOON — the Radiological Cooperative Network — is an infrastructure of Germany’s Netzwerk Universitätsmedizin (NUM), established to make medical image data usable for research quickly and efficiently. The goal is a platform that serves radiologists and researchers across Germany as an intuitive working tool, so that single-centre and multi-centre imaging studies can be planned, run and analysed faster.

Its researchers are working toward the vision of RACOON as the largest shared research platform for image-based medicine in Germany. University institutions, state research institutes and external partners collaborate to prepare both routine clinical data and purpose-collected research data so that modern analysis methods — artificial intelligence in particular — can be applied to them. Tübingen coordinates the undertaking together with the Charité and the university hospitals of Erlangen and Frankfurt, across 38 sites nationwide.
